Based at the world-renowned Asa Wright Nature Centre and Lodge, a 200-acre wildlife sanctuary in Trinidad's rainforested Northern range, Trinidad’s Grande Rivierre and the Tobago’s Cuffie River Nature Retreat, a small family-run lodge in the heart of the Tobago rainforest, participants will travel with expert second- and third-generation local guides to visit several unique and diverse natural areas on both islands.
Birding from the veranda at Asa Wright is not to be missed for the traveling birder. Newly renovated, the accommodations are as lush as the surroundings. The diversity of birds to be seen just from the veranda will include many tanagers, hummingbirds, antshrikes and toucans. A walk to Dunsten Cave on the grounds of the nature center will provide looks at the odd and rarely seen Oilbirds.
Our stay at the Grande Rivierre will give us an opportunity to find the endemic Trinidad Piping Guan as well as other highland birds.
Our final stay, at Cuffee River Retreat, will provide an opportunity to see the endemic Trinidad Motmot, then will take us through a pristine rainforest and by boat to Little Tobago Island to see Red-billed Tropicbirds and Magnificent Frigatebirds.
