Girls Weekends
Last weekend was the annual Goddess Weekend in the Texas Hill Country. We've been getting together for many years now and it is usually one of the highlights of the year, for a number of reasons:
1. Did I say the Texas Hill Country? Our buddy Melany has a family 'ranch' that is so peaceful and beautiful and we feel fortunate to share it with her. It's been in her family for over 100 years and the original farm house is still there. The Guadalupe River runs through the property and natural springs keep the water cool. The family built a few small cabins in the 70's and operated it as a kids camp for a few years. Since then it has just been for the enjoyment of the friends and family. We are foutunate to be part of that group!
2. The Goddesses - it's a gang of gals who all worked together in a travel agency years ago and we have stayed in touch. One moved to California, another lives in Hawaii. But we make it a priority to gather once per year.

3. Food and drink - lots of it. We usually take a lot of wine and even stop at a winery or two to pick up some local flavor! We usually plan a theme dinner and this year it was tamales. The all day tamalada produced pork picadillo, stewed chicken, and vegetarian tamales wrapped in banana leaves. But the best was the dessert tamales, made with masa mixed with brown sugar, cream cheese, butter and spices, with a stewed apple mixture with nuts, dried cranberries, and golden raisins. YUM! These were wrapped in corn husks. We served them with freshly made mexican vanilla ice cream. YUM YUM.
4 Massages - when we asked how it could get any better, the masage therapists showed up. (see pictures!) We set up the tables on the deck and felt the healing hands while listening to birds, the rushing river, and the smell of coffee and crossants in the kitchen.

What else can I say? How about Goddess Getaways down in the tropics? Here is an idea:
In Panama - head to Boutique Hotel Cala Mia. They have the loviest little spa, a 3-sided bungalow that looks out to the Pacific. Imagine lying there with mask....

Our Goddess weekend is good
Our Goddess weekend is good for my soul and expect it to continue even if we have to have "assistance" some day in getting there. I love sharing Big Bluff with you all. I still thank goodness for the job that introduced me to these beautiful women. It's so exciting when we get close to the date of the gathering, with all the emails flying about what we are all going to cook and so we can make wine choices. Love you ladies!
Melany
Talk about rejuvenation!
I am so blessed to be counted among these delightful and stimulating Goddesses! Still glowing from the bliss of this one, and can't wait 'til next year!
If you have never had a
If you have never had a "girls" or goddess weekend you don't know what you are missing. I'm sure everyone has their own idea of a girls weekend ours is total relaxation which for us does including cooking. Poor Mel is always trying to get us to go somewhere in the area for "a night out" but that would require us to actually put on real clothes and leave our sanctuary and take energy that I could use to float down the river. Can't wait until next's goddess weekend.
