Cocolobo

Concept:   Cocolobo is one of Roatan's most upmarket hotels. If you are looking for a peaceful private location, this is the place for you - just a short walk from the heart of Roatan's West End with all its dive shops, restaurants and bars.  With an extremely tranquil setting looking across the reef to the wide Caribbean sea, Cocolobo’s amenities include an infinity pool, Wi-Fi in the bar area, sunset bar, large deck, and a car park for those with a car.

Location: Roatan is often referred to as the Caribbean's best-kept secret. The island's most outstanding feature is the coral reef that virtually encircles it: it is part of the second largest reef system in the world. And Roatan's reef is highly accessible.

Accommodations:  Cocolobo has ten spacious guest bedrooms, all large and airy. Choose between a king-size bed or two 4ft 6ins beds. Some rooms can accommodate a third person.
All rooms are west-facing with large balconies and hammocks. They all enjoy uninterrupted views over the coral iron-shore and the Caribbean.
In addition, each room has:
  • Air Conditioning **
  • Mini-fridge
  • Flat screen cable TV
  • Ceiling and porch fans
  • Ample storage space
  • Room safe
  • Radio with speakers for i-pod
  • Hot water
**Cocolobo has been designed to take full advantage of the natural sea breezes that surrounds us. For much of the year, you will be comfortable - and more in tune with their surroundings. The energy situation has greatly improved. The local electricity company has recently invested in the grid infrastructure. Power outages are now a rarity with only occasional cuts. In the event of mains power failure, back-up generators will run from 7am-9.30am and 6pm-8.30pm. This is not only to keep costs down but also to reduce our environmental impact. Our generators run water, light and ceiling fans.

Dining:  Your room price includes a full buffet-style breakfast with a cooked platter which changes daily. But given the wide variety of excellent local and international cuisine within a few minutes walk, there is no restaurant at Cocolobo. The closest eating places, less than a minute away, specialize in local fish: enjoy coconut shrimp or freshly-caught grouper whilst looking out over the tranquil waters. Next round the bay is an excellent Argentine grill opposite the beach and further on offers a selection of restaurants catering to all tastes: fusion cuisine, vegetarian, Mexican, Indian, Vietnamese, pasta, as well as hamburgers, ribs and more. And that's just in West End!

Activities:  On the edge of the beach, you are steps from dive shops and some of the world's greatest dive sites. Or you can choose to just relax.

A limited number of rooms accommodate a 3rd person. Add $35 per night.  Due to the high cost of electricity on the island, use of AC is optional and charged at $10 per room per day.

Sustainability: The group of lodges was designed in 2005 by an award-winning young British environmental architect. Full advantage has been taken of local building materials, skills and knowledge. Honey-colored Honduran pine is used throughout for construction, complemented by local hardwoods for doors, furniture and trim. Enjoy the natural light breezes that are characteristic of the island. "Breezeways" between the rooms in the east and west lodges channel air into the bedrooms.
